How does employment discrimination affect young men’s early career paths? This three part study will examine discrimination in the labor market and its effects on young men during the transition to adulthood. For the first study, the investigator will analyze a random sample of employers’ responses to young Black, White, and Latino men to explore the prevalence of discrimination in low-wage labor markets. The second series of studies will use experimental survey techniques to examine how racial attitudes influence public support for social policies aimed to help individuals struggling to find work. Finally, a third series of studies will investigate what it is that produces discrimination. Overall, this research aims to provide a thorough examination of discrimination that will be useful for the development of public policy.
