Young Critics Institute, Young Film Critics Institute, Shakespeare Teachers, and Brooklyn Reads

To support various Youth Literacy Programs.

To support various Youth Literacy Programs. The Young Critics Institute immerses students in a weekly process of reading plays and viewing theater performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). Participants then think and write about these works critically. In the Young Film Critics Institute, students attend showings of classic and foreign films through BAMcinemetek. Under the guidance of a master critic, students discuss the films and write about them in an after-school program. The Brooklyn Reads program has students do an in-depth study of a selected text in the classroom and concludes with a reading/performance of both the work under study and student-written work that has been developed over the course of the program.
