Guidance for applicants’ response to reviewer comments and revised abstract following external and internal review of the full proposal:
Research Grants PI Response Resources
Review Stage
Your full proposal has been reviewed by external reviewers along with senior staff. You are among a select group of applicants invited to respond to reviewers’ and staff members’ comments and offer adjustments to strengthen your proposal. Competition for funding is tight at this stage, and these responses play an important role in determining which applications are funded.
What does it take to assemble a high quality response to the concerns and questions raised by reviewers and staff?
To help applicants construct a high quality response, we annotated excerpts from two research teams’ thoughtful responses. These select excerpts showcase the kind of thinking, theorizing, and methodological rigor we expect to see in responses, whether one is conducting a mixed method or experimental study. These examples are intended as guides, and do not dictate the specific topic or formula we are seeking in a response. We do, however, hope to see responses that are similar in their succinctness, clarity, and responsiveness to reviewers’ concerns.
