ETM wants to improve its Ensemble Program, which offers 60–90 hours of instruction per year in band and string instruments to students in schools where ETM already has an established general music program. ETM’s Ensemble Program does not have curriculum and training materials to provide students with appropriate levels of instruction. ETM also does not have clear benchmarks, so it is difficult to measure students’ progress over time. ETM plans to hire senior ensemble music teachers to work with program staff to create lesson plans, grade-level benchmarks, a resource manual, and skills assessment. Program staff will then train ensemble teachers to use the new curriculum and materials.
Education Through Music (ETM) partners with New York City schools to provide music education to inner-city New York students.
