The Stuttering Association for the Young (SAY) helps youth ages 8 to 25 overcome stuttering through arts education and speech therapy. SAY wants to improve staff training in its after-school arts program, which provides year-round instruction in songwriting, playwriting, and performance to youth who stutter. SAY does not currently provide its teaching artists with sufficient professional development training. The organization proposes to increase teaching artists’ training from 3 hours to 15 hours over 5 days. SAY will also hire an arts education specialist to develop a teaching manual, lesson plans, and training videos to document SAY’s methodology for future training of new teaching artists.
This grant will support the development of a more robust training program for teaching artists who serve the Stuttering Association for the Young’s after-school arts program participants.
