The Rockefeller Archive Center was founded in 1974 to bring together the existing archives of the Rockefeller family, Rockefeller Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Rockefeller University, and such other Rockefeller-related institutions as wanted to make their archives available to qualified scholars. When it opened to researchers in August 1975 the mission of the Center was, as it remains, to maintain an optimum level of professional management for the archives entrusted to its care, and therefore to provide the highest possible level of access for the researchers who come to the Center.
