Advancing the Effectiveness and Sustainability of Afterschool Programs in California

Funds were provided to develop policy recommendations and identify successful strategies and practices for for California after-school programs.

Funds were given to the Partnership for Children and Youth (PCY) to develop recommendations for policy changes to support the continuation of after-school programs to better serve youth who are at high risk of dropping out of school. PCY will also look at the most successful strategies and alternative programs that support youth who have already dropped out of school. They will then offer recommendations for programs that seek to re-engage these youth. Finally, the Partnership will issue a paper that cross-references prominent program quality measurement tools with the learning principles outlined in the “Learning in Afterschool” project.
