Children’s Responsibilities as Family Translators

How do the translating experiences of immigrant youth change over time in relation to their changing linguistic and social competencies, and their families’ changing circumstances?

The investigator will continue a study, which began in 2000, that examines children’s responsibilities as translators for their families from Mexico. The researcher will monitor how their present transition to high school is shaping the youths’ translating work, and how these experiences in turn shape their academic and developmental pathways.
