CitySquash is a year-round program in the Bronx that offers students services that include squash instruction, academic programming, and college and career counseling. CitySquash wants to improve its academic programming, which is currently literacy-based and does not have mathematics and science components. CitySquash will shift its academic curriculum so that 30 percent of its academic activities will include science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related activities. Hands-on experiments and projects incorporating technology will be introduced in the classrooms, and STEM professionals will be invited as guest speakers. Line staff will receive professional development training before the launch of the new curriculum.
Funding will allow CitySquash to integrate STEM education into its more traditionally literacy-based curriculum.
