The Gueron Scholars Program

This grant will support the participation of five undergraduate students and one doctoral fellow in MDRC’s Gueron Scholars Program.

This grant will support the participation of five undergraduate students and one doctoral fellow in MDRC’s Gueron Scholars Program, a paid summer learning experience established in 2008 to strengthen the pipeline of social and educational policy researchers from underrepresented groups. MDRC is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization studying programs and policies that affect lower-income people and connecting policymakers and practitioners to rigorous research evidence. Throughout the eight-week program, Gueron Scholars gain exposure to a career in policy research by attending project meetings, participating in seminars, and building a professional network with MDRC staff and external partners. The curriculum also includes asynchronous learning opportunities, field visits, guest speakers, peer-t0-peer mentoring, weekly reflections, and a final presentation. Several of MDRC’s policy areas focus on children from lower-income families (e.g., K-12 education, post-secondary education, youth development), offering Scholars the opportunity to explore projects focused on reducing inequality for these populations.
