This grant will tackle the persistent challenge of whether residence in disadvantaged neighborhoods leads to economic disadvantage.

Investigators will examine the impact of recent exposure to violent crime on academic achievement and how the impact varies with respect to the timing of the incident, its physical proximity to the student, and the degree of violence.

How do incidents of extreme violence or other stressors in adolescents’ neighborhoods affect their cognitive functioning and school performance?
