With this award, the Foundation will support the Council for Education Development and Research (CEDR) to develop and implement a strategic communications initiative to reinforce public understanding of the value of education research in improving student outcomes. Recent attacks on education research and evaluation threaten to jeopardize years of progress in evidence-based policymaking in education. To resist this narrative, CEDR will work with two experienced firms to develop a communications plan designed to: 1) counter misinformation; 2) elevate public awareness; 3) mobilize and equip stakeholders with messaging strategies; and 4) leverage strategic media outreach. CEDR will engage Ninety-West, a strategic communications firm supporting mission-driven organizations, and Cricket Design Works, a brand and strategy design firm, to help organize and execute aspects of the initiative. Activities will involve: 1) developing targeted messaging and infographics; 2) crafting talking points and strategic communications materials; 3) engaging the media via opinion pieces, interviews, and mainstream coverage; 4) hosting public engagement events; and 5) building a coalition for advocacy across the education sector.
