The Foundation has provided support to National Public Radio (NPR) since 1986. Within the grant period, NPR plans to cover stories on three themes aligned with the Foundation’s mission: poverty, K-12 education policy, and higher education affordability. NPR’s coverage of poverty will focus on the challenges faced by low-income youth in the wake of recent policy changes affecting Medicaid and food assistance programs. Regarding education policy, NPR plans to follow the recent cuts to the Department of Education, examining how these changes impact students and their broader communities. Finally, NPR will focus on significant federal policy changes affecting student loan borrowers, including limits on graduate student loans, the restructuring of repayment plans, and the extension of Pell grants to job-training programs. NPR will also host a podcast series that features the experiences of youth across America.
The grant will support National Public Radio’s (NPR) continuing coverage of trends and developments that affect children and youth in the United States.
