The investigator plans to write a book for youth policymakers and practitioners detailing the competencies adolescents need for adulthood in the 21st century. He will employ information gathered during his tenure as chair of an international study group that evaluated these competencies. He will also use extensive research he completed on the processes and practices through which effective youth programs help diverse adolescents develop many of these competencies, including initiative, strategic thinking, teamwork, and emotional intelligence. The book will present new concepts from the research on how positive development occurs and how adults can be effective in facilitating it.
