Improving Straight Talk and Emotional Health Prevention Program

ICD’s Youth Employment Services (YES) program combines educational and vocational services with a focus on mental health to help youth ages 16 to 21 with serious emotional disturbances (SED) transition to independent living.

ICD’s Youth Employment Services (YES) program combines educational and vocational services with a focus on mental health to help youth ages 16 to 21 with serious emotional disturbances (SED) transition to independent living. ICD has found that their highest risk participants—victims of violence, trauma, and abuse, the formerly incarcerated, and foster care children—are least likely to stay with the program and attend therapy, and more likely to display anti-social behavior and disrupt activities. For these youth, ICD plans to incorporate a new violence prevention and emotional literacy curriculum with their current programming. The new curriculum will have a participant-led peer education component.
