Grace Outreach provides GED preparation, coaching, and mentoring for low-income women in the South Bronx to build their academic skills and help them transition to higher education, vocational training, and/or employment. They have observed that weak math skills are one of the primary academic reasons for dropouts and failures at the program. To address this problem, Grace Outreach will develop a one- to two-month math boot camp to supplement current math instruction, utilize a computer-based skills curriculum to accommodate students with different skill levels, and expand the use of successful graduates as peer tutors.
