Parental Socialization Influences on Academic Engagement and Performance Among African American, Chinese, and Dominican Adolescents

How does parent socialization influence academic engagement across cultural groups?

This project builds upon a three-year longitudinal study that examines how ethnically diverse adolescents’ experiences and perceptions across contexts influence their academic engagement and performance. The goals of this study are to describe the parents’ socialization beliefs, goals, and practices, and their correspondence to adolescents’ academic achievement, ethnic and racial experiences and attitudes, and peer relations.
