How do students’ peers and friendships affect their physical, verbal, and social aggression during the transition from elementary to middle school? How does school context affect students’ aggression? How can the design of intervention programs and school policies be improved in response to these issues? To examine these questions, the investigator will follow 300 students over two years as they transition from six elementary schools to three middle schools. Information from questionnaire surveys, individual interviews, self-assessments, and assessments from teachers, peers, and school records will be evaluated. Findings from this study will help to identify the types of support students need in adjusting to the changes in their peer groups and friendships during the transition to middle school.
