U.S. researchers in this area do not often look at the literature from international contexts. Aside from the Foundation’s grantee meetings, scholars in education do not typically interact with those in human services, and neither group has significant exposure to scholars who are bridging evidence and policy in technology policy, healthcare, and environmental policy. These silos prohibit the infusion of new ideas and methods that might lead to stronger work. This grant will support Farley-Ripple and a select group of U.S. scholars to attend an international, interdisciplinary, and cross-policy meeting organized by the journal Evidence and Policy. After the meeting, Farley-Ripple will leverage her leadership role in The Center for Research Use in Education to generate a series of products that communicate the lessons learned for U.S. scholars.
This grant will foster greater engagement between researchers studying the use of research evidence in the U.S. and their counterparts in other countries, disciplines, and policy areas.
