Given that large proportions of the girls and young women in New York City are racial/ethnic minorities, immigrants or children of immigrants, and/or live in near- or absolute poverty, the Fund, which comprises over twenty foundations, awards grants to nonprofits that promote the economic success and social well-being of girls, transgender women, and non-binary youth of color. The Fund maintains a separate rapid response fund to address imminent threats to its target populations, such as gender-based violence and anti-immigrant backlash. It also works with community allies to advocate for cultural and systemic change in relevant areas such as criminal justice, education, and workforce development. In 2017, the Fund anticipates that it will award about $3 million to 30 organizations and up to $50,000 in rapid response grants.
This grant will support the Foundation’s membership in the NYC Fund for Girls and Young Women of Color, a collaborative funding effort designed to foster philanthropic investment in girls and young women of color, including cisgender, transgender, and gender non-binary youth.
