The Research Alliance for New York City Schools will use existing data maintained by the New York City Department of Education to identify district policies and qualities of the school environment that may influence teacher effectiveness. The investigators will explore data from teacher reports, student surveys, and administrative records to better understand how different components within schools—such as safety and order, professional development, stability of staff, and connection with parents—relate to one another and contribute to effective teaching. The researchers will also evaluate the quality of the data archived by the city’s Department of Education as a source of information for future studies investigating the impact of schools on teacher and student outcomes.
