Youth Program Quality Intervention for After-School Programs

Can a feedback process for after-school program workers improve the quality of after-school program settings?

Can a feedback process for after-school program workers improve the quality of after-school program settings? This intervention uses a cycle of staff self-assessment and professional coaching to improve after-school programs through better staff training and organizational decision-making. Using a web-based interactive system, on-site educational workshops, technical assistance, and training for staff and youth on how to use High/Scope’s Youth Program Quality Assessment, researchers will test whether the process of self-assessment and coaching changes staff knowledge and behaviors. The sample consists of 100 after-school sites in Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, and New York (50 experimental and 50 control sites) that serve youth ages 9 to 17.
