This project is a collaborative effort involving a strong interdisciplinary team and other Foundation grantees (Alan Daly and Kara Finnigan) who are working together to share their skills and expertise in organizational theory, education, and social network analysis. Collectively, they will design a study to examine the succession process of school principals. The study will use network analysis and survey measures to document how social networks change following a principal’s departure and replacement, how these changes shape the new principal’s assimilation, teachers’ responses to the new principal, and the resulting climate and character of the school. The investigators will produce an important and considerable amount of work for a small investment.
What happens to a school when a principal leaves?
