Bell Voices equips New York City’s young people with the tools to report important stories and the skills to thrive in the media careers. Their programming supports youth journalism through podcasts and internships for high school students, mentorships with professional journalists, and programs like the Student Journalism Action Group and Youth Journalism Coalition. Their capacity-building project is to roll off their fiscal sponsor, which will enable them to receive City Council discretionary funds, open additional public and private funding opportunities, instill confidence from potential supporters and partners, and ultimately improve their ability to reach more students and carry out their mission of ensuring equitable access to journalism opportunities for the city’s youth. Bell Voices will contract with a part-time accounting firm to support this transition and eventually taper their hours as the grant progresses and more accounting and control practices are brought in-house.
