Unlocking Opportunity: Enhancing Funding for Legal Services for Immigrant Youth in NYC through Strategic Fundraising Planning

This grant will expand ICARE’s capacity to build a fundraising plan, launch targeted campaigns, and cultivate relationships with funders.

Immigrant Children Advocates Relief Effort (ICARE) is a coalition of New York City nonprofit legal services providers that defend unaccompanied immigrant youth from deportation. ICARE’s mission is to expand access to pro bono legal counsel with a goal of universal access to counsel for unaccompanied immigrant youth facing removal in New York City. One of ICARE’s major funders is phasing out their support after a decade-long partnership. This was an expected development, but has nonetheless led to service limitations, operational strain, and reduced outreach—even as demand is growing due to the recent influx of arrivals needing services. ICARE’s capacity-building project is to develop a fundraising plan, cultivate relationships with funders and partners, and launch targeted fundraising campaigns. ICARE is fiscally sponsored by the Fund for the City of New York.
