Pre-Design Phase for the Center for Evidence-based Policymaking

There has been a recent push by policymakers to reduce the federal footprint in education policy and shift the responsibility for education reform to states. NASBE plans to establish a Center for Evidence-based State Policy to promote collaboration between state boards and research networks.

The goal is to support state boards in making informed policy decisions based on research evidence and to provide research networks with policymakers’ feedback to inform future studies. Funds will be used to create a business plan for the Center that describes a five-year development and implementation process. Some of the activities include assessing the research and policy needs of NASBE board members; coordinating efforts with other state policy organizations; surveying selected NASBE members and partners; reviewing other models for research-practice partnerships; and determining costs, timelines, and sustainability by consulting with experts.
