The goal of this institute is to help graduate students and other early-career researchers consider ways to incorporate the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their research agendas. Over a series of sessions led by senior education scholars, participants will develop an understanding of the current range of theoretical perspectives on diversity, equity, and inclusion from humanities, behavioral science, and social science disciplines; methodological approaches and models for examining diversity, equity, and inclusion; and gaps in existing knowledge and new directions for research that incorporates diversity, equity, and inclusion. AERA will recruit participants who are interested in developing or are currently involved in research that draws upon these themes, prioritizing the recruitment of scholars from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. Applicants will submit a statement of interest, curriculum vitae, and reference list, and applications will be reviewed by an expert panel of researchers. Funds from will cover the lodging expenses for the up to forty graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and pre-tenured faculty selected to participate.
This award will support the attendance of graduate students and early-career researchers at a one-day American Educational Research Association (AERA) preconference on diversity, equity, and inclusion in education research.
