Research-Practice Engagement: Case Studies in New York City and State

This grant will support two convenings focused on Foundation-commissioned papers.

The convening on “Intersecting Inequalities: Research to Reduce Inequality for Immigrant-Origin Children and Youth” will bring attention to the challenges facing children and youth from immigrant families and encourage further research and community efforts to address their educational and service needs. Invitees will include leaders from local government, education, social services, philanthropy, and programmatic domains. A second convening, on “The New Forgotten Half and Research Directions to Support Them,” will focus on the risks, barriers, and advantages of stronger academic content and alignment of high-school and college curricula. The meeting will also include a discussion of next steps in addressing low college completion rates. Invitees will include deans and provosts from CUNY and SUNY schools, representatives of the Board of Regents, New York State Assembly and Senate education committee members, philanthropists, education leaders, researchers, and innovators in the field of education.
